The sun is shining, the water is beckoning, and you’ve got your fishing pole ready to go.  Let’s hit the water!  Right?  Well, sure, but there may be a few more things that you might want to consider bringing along with you.  After all, taking care of your needs is critical when you’re heading out on the bay for some adventures.  You don’t want to find out, after you’ve already pushed off shore, that you forgot your sunscreen at home.

Here’s how to best prepare for a fun adventure on the water

Bring lots of sunscreen

Sunscreen is an absolute must-have out on the water, along with a hat.  You absolutely need to keep yourself protected from the elements and Fishing 101 tells you that sunscreen should be applied regularly and liberally no matter how annoying it is.  Safety comes first, and that includes weather-related safety tips.

Bring a light jacket or long sleeve shirt

The wind and temperature change drastically out on the water, so bring a light jacket or long sleeve for when the sun disappears or maybe when you’ve been exposed to too much of the elements.  It’s great for staying comfortable during a harsh wind  and also gives you a break from the sun and windburn if you need it.  Bring pants for the same reason, or wear pants that can zip off if needed.

Bring the right equipment for your fish of choice

When you are heading out on the water, you know you’re on the hunt for a certain kind of fish, and a certain kind of fishing. Obviously you will set up the “type of fishing” with your Galveston Fishing Charter captain in the planning of your boat/fishing adventure; but, you will want to make sure that you bring along the right fishing equipment and bait for that kind of fish, otherwise you won’t get the positive results that you’re looking for.

Choose the right charter to take you out

It’s more than possible to head out on your own and get good results, but you absolutely might want to consider a fishing charter instead.  A professional fishing charter captain that has the experience you may be lacking will be able to take all of the controls off your mind so that you can focus purely on the art and fun of fishing.  Not to mention, they’ll know the perfect spot to catch your prey!

Don’t forget your license!

This is a biggie.  A lot of people will neglect to bring their license along with them for one reason or another, but you need to make sure that you do, in fact, bring it.  It’s the legal document that allows you to fish, and when you are going to consider a fishing charter, it’s conditional on your license being valid.

Preparing for a day out on the water can take some prep work, but it is also a lot of fun when it all comes together properly for a successful adventure.  Whether this serves as a checklist, or just something interesting to read, it’ll get you moving in the right direction.  Use these tips to help you make the most out of it and it’s sure to be a day of nothing but good times.
