Grab your rod and and a boat, or book a charter with Galveston Fishing Charter for your shark expedition, and get ready for a great session of shark fishing.  Not sure how to do that?  We’ve got just the inside scoop but here’s some info for you right now.  The basics on shark fishing are going to be easier than you could have imagined, making your next adventure that much easier to enjoy to the fullest.

When is best to find shark:

As far as timing is concerned, you’ll be able to take a crack at shark fishing year-round.  In terms of the most plentiful times, you’ll find that a lot of the bigger breeds can be found closer to shore in the spring, where they are heading inland to procreate for another year.  While a lot of sharks tend to head south for the winter (winter, funny, right? lol), you will be able to find some species such as inshore bonnet-head sharks there year-round.

So, spring is your best time to have the most options available to you, but you can still head out and take a look at the species that hang around all year long, too.  We know the great times of year for any fishing you choose so be sure to let us know what you are looking to find when you book your fishing charter and we’ll be sure to get you the best experience for your fishing desire.

Sharks exist all over the place in terms of water choices, but you’ll find your best spots for a successful fishing adventure along beaches, or in deep inlets.  As far as a guaranteed spot, you’ll be able to find something near a feeding station, as it is essentially like a year-round buffet for them, leading them to hang around and give you a chance to get their attention.

Again, we know where to go for the best shark fishing expedition. Let us know you are interested.

What to use:

Unlike in the old days, you don’t need huge gear in order to do the trick.  You simply need to be smart about the gear that you do choose.  You’ll be able to enjoy a good adventure as long as you use braided line, and a heavy duty reel.  You can find some great options that are intended with shark fishing in mind, too.  You’ll be surprised with the smaller rods can handle these days.

The most important thing to remember is to rely on heavy bait.  Since you will mostly likely want to release the shark that you catch, a lightweight bait makes for a great capture story, but it may result in a dead shark by the end of the ordeal, which does no one any good whatsoever.  Especially the shark.  There’s fun in the sport and the act of catching a shark, of course, but letting it go is typically the best end result that you could hope for as a final act once all of the photos are take.

Shark fishing gives a thrill like no other kind of fishing, and these tips on the basics of it will help you to make sure that it is as enjoyable as possible. We want you to enjoy the full adventure of fishing no matter when or where you go, for how long and whatever type of fishing you are looking to do. For the right location to the right gear, it all comes together to make sure that you have the right tools to make each fishing trip a success.
